Smalls' mother, Betzaida Rodríguez, is a social worker who is Puerto Rican and of Spanish, Taino Indian, and Indian (South Asian) heritage.

Smalls graduated magna cum laude from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor's degree in psychology.
